Despite the process of sustained economic growth that has occurred in Spain in the last decade, rates of inequality and poverty hardly have been reduced. In Spain there are still 8.5 million people living in poverty, which means that 19.7% of the Spanish population subsists on 574 euros a month, a figure that poverty has not changed in the last decade. This is one of the main findings of the report FOESSA VI (Promotion of Applied Social Studies and Sociology) Exclusion and Social Development in 2008 in Spain which gives a picture of the social reality of our country between 1994 and 2007.
